Dr. Jacob Hervey Edwards, b. July 24, 1873, Kentucky, d. Oct 25, 1910, Cuthbert, Texas, graduated from the University of Tennessee at Nashville in 1901. Jacob is the son of Sandy T. and Sarah Edwards.
Edwards came to Texas to take care of his sister who was sick. On his way back to Kentucky, his horse went lame in Cuthbert so he was put up at the home of the blacksmith, W.C. Westfall who was married to Theodocia (Docia) Lamb. Docia’s sister, Ada, was staying with them. Ada and Jacob fell in love and married in 1906. Dr. Edwards wrote to his parents in Kentucky telling them how great Texas was, so they loaded up their wagon and came to Texas.
Jacob and Ada had two children: Sarah Ruth Edwards b. Sept 16, 1907, Mitchell Cty, Texas, d. April 1, 2000, Mitchell County, Texas Buried at Cuthbert
John Taylor Edwards b. August 6, 1909, Mitchell Cty, Texas, d. Dec 3, 1986 Tarrant Cty, Tx
In 1910, Dr. Edwards was returning home from delivering a baby in his buggy with a team of horses that he was still training. According to witnesses, lightning scared the horses, they bolted, Dr. Edwards turned them into a fence to stop them, and he fell into the rigging and died. Ada Lamb Edwards, b.
