Located off of Highway 78; turn at Brown Road to Washington-Wilkes County Animal Shelter; follow road to the shelter then turn left into driveway/road (unpaved); cemetery on left – surrounded by dry laid rock wall.

Mrs. Penelope Terrell

who was born the 9th

day of November, 1776

and departed this life

August, 1827

 

Other graves now destroyed are evident (field stones, granite pieces, “sinks”).

 

Penelope Terrell was the wife of Peter Buford Terrell (1784 VA – 1821 GA),

ancestors of Anne Barrett Chamlee thru her mother, Juanita Terrell Barrett (1911-2002).

Penelope’s mother was Judith (Waddey) Jones.
